Preservation

Preservation refers to actions taken in preventing premature deterioration. Structural reinforcement, topical application of a corrosion inhibitor on concrete and the installation of an elastomeric waterproofing system are common examples of preservation. Because of our extensive background in repair and remediation, we also have experience in preservation of an asset to reduce the amount of degradation before repairs are initiated (if needed).

Corrosion Control Engineering

As part of the design process, successful corrosion control strategies can be implemented using one of the following:

• Material Selection: Selection of more corrosion resistant materials of construction
• Inhibitors: Use of chemical additive to arrest the process of corrosion
• Coatings and Sealants: Use of protective coating and sealants to separate the corrosive environment from the structure
• Cathodic Protection: Applying direct current to the structure using specialized equipment to arrest the corrosion process

Existing Structures personnel are specially trained and skilled to use all available corrosion control tools and provide the correct mix to problem at hand.
